Low-key day

Today we didn't do too much. Amayah had her preschool Holiday show which was pretty cute. The parents sat around and watched the kids sing Christmas songs then we had cookies and juice. Amayah is one of the smallest kids in class, and for some reason they put her in the back row with the tallest girl in the class right in front of her. So we could really only see her when she moved a certain way. We took some video and I will try to post a little segment later. Ta-ta for now!

Buuuurrrrrr!

Well we woke up this morning, FREEZING!! It was nice and warm when I went to bed so I immediately went to the thermostat to see if Kendall adjusted it before he went to be. It was at like 50 degrees so I knew something was wrong. I tried to crank it up and only cold air blew out of the vents. Not good! I woke Kendall up and he started calling heating companies to get a repair guy out. Geez, what a racket they have going on, $100 just to come out to the house! The guy was only here for 15 minutes and got it up and running (a pipe was frozen??). They are going to bill us and I have no clue how much it's going to be, but at least we're warm again!

We haven't been up to too much lately. Last Thursday I went to the Lori Line show/concert with my parents and Sarah. It was nice, but it seems that each year the quality of the show decreases. It just used to be way better than it is now. Part of that reason is because Robert Robertson is no longer a part of it (the director of the Twin Cities Gospel Choir and an AMAZING singer). Next year Amayah will go with us so that should be fun. They have a part of the show when all the kids go up on stage with costumes and sing songs.

That's all for now!

Kendall started his new hours today. It was nice to have him here for the morning/early afternoon, but it's definately strange now that it's 8:00 at night and he's still at work. It actually wasn't too bad getting the kids to be tonight by myself, which is surprising. I'm sure it won't always be that way though.
Today I had an orientation at school. I start my CNA class the day after Christmas. My teacher is hilarious...although she's isn't trying to be. She's a very mousy-type of person, who turns red when she speaks, and just not what you would imagine as a teacher :) I had to sit with my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing, so it should be an interesting couple of weeks (the class is only 2.5 weeks). They gave us our first assignment already, to read 200 pages and answer the end of chapter questions by the 1st day of class. What the heck is that about?? Who gets homework before class even starts!
I registered last week for the Spring semester. I'm taking Anat/Phys, even though I've had it already it was many years ago and I figure I better take it again to refresh myself before taking the 2nd anat/phys class. I need 6 credits to get financial aid and so I figured I'd just take something mindless and easy since I have all of my electives done. So, I registered for a MS Word class. Both are online and start mid January. My financial aid will cover the whole thing and I'll still have about $800 left over, so that's nice!
Well, I suppose I should go start on my reading!!

It's been a while since I've had time to update my blog, life has been busy, busy! Kendall started his new job at Wells Fargo in Shoreview, about 6 weeks ago. He is just finishing up training and will start his new hours on Tuesday. He'll be working 2-10:30 pm with Wednesdays and Sundays off. While it will suck to not have him here for dinner and bedtimes, it will also be easier in the mornings to get things done, run errands, go to appointments, etc. It will probably take some getting used to but I think it will be okay.

Last Saturday we took the kids to a Christmas tree farm that's just down the street from our house. We took a tractor ride out into a field where we (Kendall) cut down our own tree. They also had hot apple cider, snacks, ponies, and a play structure for the kids. It was a ton of fun and a beautiful day for it!!

Xavier started sleeping in his "big boy" bed. The first few days went very smoothly, and we were quite surprised! He just laid right down and went to sleep. However, the last few days haven't gone as well. He has figured out that he can get out of his bed and now it's impossible to keep him in there. The last couple of nights we've given up after an hour or so and put him back in his crib, which we haven't taken down yet. I can't believe he is going to be 2 next month!

Amayah is still busy as ever. She is in preschool 3 days a week, plus dance class, gymnastics, and swimming lessons. She loves it all except for the swimming. She's terrified of the water even though she's been in lessons for over a year now. She hasn't made any progress. I'm stumped and the instructors are stumped on what we can do for her to get her more comfortable. Xavier on the other hand LOVES swimming, which is a huge change from when he first started lessons over the summer. He jumps in the water, goes under, kicks and scoops on his own. He's great at it!

The other night I had my friends Leah and Georgia, and their kids over for a visit. I don't get to see Georgia very often so it was really nice that she could make it out here. Her daughter, Arayah, is the cutest little thing. She's only 6 months but looks like she is pretty close to walking already. She is full of smiles and has the greatest personality, reminds me of how Amayah was at that age....if only that had lasted :) Anyway, we made plans for Georgia and her boyfriend to come over on New Years Day to play some spades and have some drinks, so I'm looking forward to that. For New Years Eve, I'm trying to talk Kendall into us taking the kids to spend the night at the Waterpark of America. I've never been there but think it would be a blast!!

This past Friday my dad and I took the kids to the Macy's Holiday display in Mpls. It was our first time there and I was really impressed with how great it was! We ended up parking really far away though and got lost in the skyway system. Thanks to some really nice people on their lunch breaks we were able to make it there and back but it was a long walk! I think the kids really enjoyed it. They also got to see Santa and sit on his lap which they liked. It's nice during the Holidays when I can use Santa as a way to get the kids to be extra good (Santa doesn't bring presents to the naughty kids) :) ha-ha!

My dad bought us a new granite countertop and sink for our bathroom for Christmas. This weekend Kendall spent a ton of time trying to install it and it ended up being a bigger project than he had anticipated. In the end he had to put the old sink and counter back on just so he could turn the water back on and we could go to bed. He had to go get some more parts today and hasn't had a chance to work on it again today, so maybe next weekend. I'm excited to re-do the bathroom and it shouldnt' be too expensive. I love doing home improvements. Ok, well actually I don't really do the work myself but I like the results I should say.

I'll try harder to keep the blog updated!
